Follow these steps to connect your blog created on Blogger.com with your own domain.
Getting the Necessary DNS Settings from Blogger
- Log in to Blogger.com and select the blog you would like to connect to your domain.
- In the left side menu, click Settings.
- Scroll down to the Publishing section and select Setup a 3rd party URL for your blog.
- Enter your domain name and click Save. In our example, we are using the domain www.example.com.
- You will encounter an error message stating that Blogger has been unable to verify your authority of the domain and two CNAMEs will be displayed.
Creating the Subdomains
- Now log into your own hosting and go to the Domains & SSL section.
- Create a subdomain based on the first Name, Label, or Host field from Blogger. In the example above, it is www, so the subdomain is www.example.co.uk.
- Create a second subdomain based on the second Name, Label, or Host field from Blogger. It should be a random set of characters such as g03fbxe2qka8, so using our example domain, the subdomain to create is g03fbxe2qka8.example.co.uk.
Setting the CNAME Records
- Enter ghs.google.com as an Alias.
- Repeat
this process for the second subdomain you created
(g03fbxe2qka8.example.co.uk in our example) and enter the information
from the second Destination, Target or Points To field in the Alias field.
The second CNAME record will always be unique. For example, it could be something similar to gv-wdndvx9shm8xm1.dv.googlehosted.com.
Setting the IP Address
If you are using a www subdomain for your Blogger site, you will also need to set an IP address to point your root domain (such as example.co.uk) to Google's servers.
